Fiteracy for Aged Care and Older Adults
The Fiteracy teaching method is now used in a number of programs for older adults and involves adults participating in creative pursuits whilst also completing gentle exercise.
The Brainiacs Program is a program for older adults who use Fiteracy to create low anxiety opportunities for adults completing falls prevention and balance programs.
Brainiac programs focus on a participant's interests and use strength based learning.
This enables participants to enjoy physical activities that they may have enjoyed in their 20s by modifying components of the activity to ensure they are safe and effective
Brainiacs programs include creative writing, trivia questions, music and marching and exercise leadership activities involving team members assisting each other with learning new activities together.
The Brainiacs programs offer activities based on the latest research into neuroplasticity and the brain's ability to continue learning new activities,
Brainiac team members are encouraged to learn about the effects of " learned non use": and are encouraged to develop activities together that encourage utilizing all areas of the brain such as drawing, dance and drumming.
